Why Isn’t There a Recirculate Button in My Car?

What is Mercedes-Benz Satellite Navigation Climate Control?

Remember the recirculate button? Remember how you used to never use it because you didn’t know what it was for? You may have noticed that this button has disappeared from new luxury vehicles. No, Mercedes-Benz did not give up on us, it simply took the responsibility out of our hands. The Mercedes-Benz satellite navigation climate control feature automatically manages your car’s climate control system when traveling through tunnels.

Recirculate

Normally, your car pulls air from the outside to heat or cool the car interior. Recirculate is a climate-control function that recycles the air inside the car instead. This is used to avoid pollutants in the outside air or to save energy. It can even be used to cool your car down quicker. It’s the button with a picture of a car with circulating arrows inside.

Mercedes-Benz did not advertise this feature very heavily when it came out in the C-Class last year, but it actually uses satellite navigation to alert your car when you are driving through a tunnel. Tunnels tend to be home to a lot of pollutant gasses because these pollutants get stuck in the warm atmosphere. Cars driving through constantly with only two ways for air to get in and out can be a deadly combination.

How Does it Work?

Believe it or not, when the new C-Class detects a tunnel, it will activate the recirculate feature to protect you and your occupants from harmful gasses. Once you are out of the tunnel, the flaps will open and you will have access to fresh air again. No action is required from the driver, just like before when you simply didn’t use it. With a special AIR-BALANCE package, you even get the comfort of fragranced air. If you have any questions about Mercedes-Benz satellite navigation climate control, leave a comment below!
