The Atlanta Falcons Get a New Stadium

Mercedes-Benz Stadium Atlanta

When an NFL team gets a new stadium, it is exciting. Not just for the players and the staff, but also for the fans. A lot of creativity and competition goes into building an arena big enough to fit 70,000 people, and the pressure to be the biggest never disappoints. For example, The Falcons new stadium is projected to have a bigger scoreboard than the AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Even if you aren’t a Falcons fan, you can’t help but appreciate the size and design of the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Mercedes-Benz Stadium of the Atlanta Falcons will be the second NFL stadium with Mercedes-Benz naming rights, after the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. It is currently about halfway through construction and it is looking as awesome as a 2016 S-Class.

Location

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is being built only 84 feet from its predecessor, the Georgia Dome, which was built in 1992. It is facing the south side of the Georgia Dome, which really shows off its superiority to the old stadium. If you are interested, you can view the construction process live, via webcam on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium website.

Size

Everything is bigger at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. From the price tag to the number of elevators, the new stadium towers over the Georgia Dome. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be 30 stories tall when completed, three stories taller than the Georgia Dome, and scoreboard square footage will increase from 4,800 to a whopping 63,800 square feet. This is going to be made possible by a 58 foot tall screen that stretches around the entirety of the field, covering 1,100 feet in length. This actually makes it about three times bigger than the displays at the Cowboy’s Stadium. And we thought the 8.4-inch display on the 2017 C-Class was big!

Open Date

The only information released about opening information is that it will open in 2017. This means that we can expect it for the 2017-2018 season. Even though the Cardinals won’t be playing there, it will still be fun to see the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in action when the Falcons start using it in the fall of 2017.
