What Makes the GT 53 Powertrain So Performance-Focused?  

The GT 53 uses two electric motors, with one positioned on each axle. The rear motor delivers the primary propulsion, while the front motor provides additional power when needed. Through a Disconnect Unit, the front motor can disengage during lighter driving conditions. This approach helps balance performance with efficiency. 

An innovative two-speed transmission further supports the electric drivetrain. First gear uses an 11:1 ratio for strong launches and city driving. Second gear uses a 5:1 ratio for higher-speed performance and highway efficiency. Shift points adapt to driving conditions and the selected AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT program.  

Power comes from a 106-kWh usable high-voltage battery with directly cooled round cells. The battery uses 2,660 cells arranged across 18 modules. Its 800-volt architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 600 kW at compatible charging stations. Mercedes-AMG® states that up to 534 kilometers of range can be added in as little as 10 minutes.

Thermal management is another important part of the powertrain. The Central Coolant Hub coordinates cooling for major components.
