The MCT (Multi-Clutch Technology) version replaces the traditional torque converter with a wet-startup clutch. With driving modes like “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” and “Race,” the system adapts the shift pattern to match your driving style. Need quick overtaking power? Use paddle shifters for immediate manual gear selection and aggressive downshifts. Rev-matching is also built-in, giving you that perfect throttle blip when downshifting for tighter corners.  

In 2025 models like the AMG® C 63 S E PERFORMANCE and AMG® GLC 63 S, the SPEEDSHIFT® system works hand-in-hand with hybrid powertrains and performance suspension setups, turning high horsepower into usable traction and responsiveness.  

At its core, AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® is all about speed, control, and dynamic feedback. The system uses electronic and mechanical components to execute gear changes faster than traditional automatic transmissions. In the MCT version, multiple wet clutch packs engage gears with less slip, giving you rapid upshifts and responsive downshifts.  

The system also has a built-in “double-declutching” function for downshifts. This provides an exciting engine sound and helps reduce the load on the drivetrain by matching engine and transmission speeds.  

Additionally, AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® can skip multiple gears in a single move, for example, going from 7th directly to 4th, when maximum acceleration is needed. This lets drivers immediately tap into peak torque without waiting through intermediate shifts.
