What kind of car is Drift in Transformers 5: The Last Knight?

Mercedes-Benz likes to make its cars famous by putting them up on the big screen. Whether it be a real car like the GLE Coupe in Jurassic World or a fake one like the pre-owned Mercedes-Benz in Spaceballs, Mercedes-Benz is the first to cash in on Hollywood publicity. Most recently, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been announced as the newest member of the Autobots in Transformers 5: The Last Knight.

Drift

Drift is a character that actually showed up in the last movie, titled Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. He is a samurai and one of the quickest on the team, which will also consist of the new Camaro and the new Mustang. In the last movie, he was represented by a black and blue Bugatti Veyron. This is a hard role to live up to for the GT R, but actually there has never been a better car to play the part.

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R

Going by the nickname, “The Beast of the Green Hell”, the Mercedes-AMG GT R was conceived and designed for use on the Nurburgring. It comes with 577 horsepower, jumps from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds just like a samurai, and uses a number of transforming body parts to manipulate aerodynamics.

This isn’t the first time a Mercedes-Benz has shown up in a Transformers movie. In fact, it isn’t even the first time a GT has played a role. In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT got some screen time as Soundwave, a Decepticon with noisy intentions. Has the GT R switched sides? We sure hope so!
