What is the AGILITY CONTROL® Feature in the New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedans?

AGILITY CONTROL®: Comfort Meets Performance  

Mercedes-Benz has added the AGILITY CONTROL® feature to the new E-Class sedans to deliver exceptional performance and comfort. It utilizes selective damping, automatically adjusting each shock absorber based on the road surface and the driver’s actions. During stronger body motions, the system firms up the shock absorbers for sharper handling and stability. Conversely, it reduces damping rates during smoother driving for a more comfortable ride. This dynamic adjustment ensures that the E-Class offers both sporty agility and luxurious comfort, adapting to changing driving conditions.  

In addition to the standard steel suspension, the new E-Class offers the AIRMATIC® air suspension system as part of the Technology package. This advanced system includes ADS+ continuously adjustable damping and rear-axle steering. The AIRMATIC® system uses air springs and adaptive dampers that adjust automatically for each wheel, responding to road quality to maintain ride comfort. It also features a level control function that adjusts ground clearance based on speed and load, reducing air resistance and improving fuel efficiency at higher speeds. This combination of technologies ensures a smooth, controlled ride regardless of the driving environment.  

Furthermore, the E-Class sedan’s rear-axle steering option further enhances its agility and stability. At lower speeds, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels, reducing the turning circle and making the vehicle more maneuverable. This is particularly useful in tight spaces, such as parking lots. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels, improving handling stability and safety during lane changes or evasive maneuvers. This feature, combined with the AGILITY CONTROL® system, provides an exceptionally responsive and dynamic driving experience.
