Mercedes-Benz is always striving to create new innovative ways to help protect from and prevent collisions. They are constantly testing new safety features and design details to help keep drivers and passengers safe. Mercedes-Benz was even one of the first automotive brands to offer crumple zones in its vehicles. Today we’re going to take a look at one of their most recent developments, the Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® system.
The idea behind the Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® system is to prepare for an accident before it even happens. The exclusive PRE-SAFE® system can actually sense that a collision might be imminent and it will help prepare for it. It does this by using a network of sensors that can detect potentially dangerous situations. When these situations are detected, the system will tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front head restraints and passenger seat and can even close the windows and the sunroof.
The Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® system is available on a variety of models, including the C-Class, GLC-Class, CLA-Class, E-Class Sedan, S-Class, CLS-Class, GLE SUV and GLS SUV. A few of these vehicles are also available with DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE® Brake. If this system senses that a collision is imminent, its PRE-SAFE® brake feature automatically initiates up to 40% braking power, audibly alerts the driver and engages the PRE-SAFE® system.
