Is Mercedes-Benz Cheating Emission Tests?
With all eyes on Volkswagen and the emission scandal, it is only natural that other companies will get attacked as well. A class-action lawsuit just popped up in Texas claiming Mercedes-Benz diesel defeat devices exist in most of the Mercedes-Benz lineup from the discontinued Mercedes-Benz M-Class to the new Mercedes-Benz GLE. Could this money-hungry Texas law firm be milking the scandal by any means necessary or have Mercedes-Benz diesel cars actually caused punitive damages to owners?

Basically, the claim is that Mercedes-Benz vehicles use testing devices similar to the ones Volkswagen was using. When the test is administered, the emissions pass regulations. After the cars get out on the road, these devices turn off and pollute the environment at illegal levels. With Mercedes-Benz vehicles specifically, the devices allegedly turn off when the weather drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, causing a 2,000 percent increase in pollution.
Mercedes-Benz has not released a public statement regarding this lawsuit. So as of right now, it could go either way. Mercedes-Benz may not have been doing anything illegal because its full lineup of vehicles is not available in every state. For instance, in warmer climates, this wouldn’t be a problem and they would still be considered friendly to the environment. If you currently own a BLUETEC Mercedes-Benz, don’t worry. Even if it the allegations are true, your car will still work the same as it always has. We will let you know how it plays out, but we think this law firm in Texas might be overreacting a little bit to try to get some free money.
