How Do You Get Better Fuel Efficiency Out of Your Car?

3 Ways You Can Get Better Fuel Efficiency

Did you know that a vehicle can consume up to 30% more fuel if essential maintenance is not conducted regularly? We all understand the importance of routine car maintenance, but we don’t do it frequently enough for various reasons. Not only by the regular maintenance but also there are a few more ways to get better fuel efficiency out of your vehicle. Read the blog post by Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead in Peoria, AZ.

No AC = 30 % More Mileage

On a hot summer day, running your air conditioner at full blast can reduce your car’s average by up to 30%. If you drive 500 kilometers on a full gas tank with the AC on, you can travel nearly 600-625 kilometers with the AC turned off. Moving without the AC will be uncomfortable, but if mileage is your only concern, you must forego the AC.

Do Not Keep Your Vehicle in Idle Mode

Do not idle the vehicle for more than one minute. Idling uses half a gallon to a gallon of gas per hour and emits unnecessary CO2 into the atmosphere. Turning off and restarting a modern engine consumes less fuel than idling for extended periods. We’re already dealing with no-idle zones. Additionally, to effectively warm an engine, drive it rather than rev it.

Engines only work hard when they are under load, and they will warm up much faster if you start the engine, wait Twenty seconds (this builds oil pressure), and then drive away.

Coasting Technique

Essentially, it’s a simple technique for increasing your car’s fuel efficiency while reducing brake wear. When you do not accelerate, the kinetic energy produced by your vehicle propels it forward. Instead of constantly accelerating, you can use this momentum. For example, accelerating towards it is counterproductive if you see a red light approaching from a distance. Instead, allow your car to roll smoothly towards the traffic intersection and come to a stop/reduce speed on its own.
