What Sets the Driving Experience of the Mercedes-AMG® CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung Apart?

Powerful V8 Performance and Rear-Wheel-Drive Excitement

Developed by AMG® engineers in Affalterbach, the Mercedes-AMG® CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung takes the CLE Coupe’s performance to another level. Its extensively modified construction reduces weight by approximately 375 pounds compared with the donor vehicle. Under the hood, the AMG® M177 EVO 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine produces 637 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. Additionally, its flat-plane crankshaft supports responsive acceleration and quick-revving performance.

Unlike the standard model’s all-wheel-drive configuration, this Spezialanfertigung sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. An electronically controlled, limited-slip differential manages torque distribution to improve traction and stability. Meanwhile, the AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® TCT 9G transmission delivers quick gear changes and rapid downshifts when extra power is needed. With launch control, the coupe accelerates from 0 to 124 mph in 11.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 193 mph.

Precision-Tuned Suspension and High-Performance Braking

Handling plays an equally important role in this AMG® coupe’s character. Its steel-sprung coilover suspension, developed with KW Automotive, features four-way-adjustable dampers. Drivers can independently adjust low-speed and high-speed compression and rebound settings to suit their driving preferences and circuit conditions. Consequently, the chassis offers precise steering responses, controlled body movements, and consistent tire contact across challenging surfaces.

Furthermore, the AMG® Ceramic High-Performance Composite Braking System provides substantial stopping power during demanding drives. Large ceramic discs, six-piston front calipers, and dedicated brake-cooling components help manage heat during intensive track sessions. The lightweight braking setup also reduces unsprung mass, supporting sharper turn-in responses.

Track-Focused Aerodynamics and Driver Control

Beyond its mechanical upgrades, the Mercedes-AMG® CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung features a distinctive wide-body design with carbon fiber components, open fender louvers, and an adjustable rear wing. Its manually adjustable front diffuser offers Street and Race positions, allowing drivers to select the appropriate configuration for their intended use. In Race mode, the integrated aerodynamic package generates well over 550 pounds of downforce at top speed, supporting stability and steering precision.

Additionally, AMG® TRACTION CONTROL provides nine selectable rear-wheel-slip settings for closed-circuit driving when ESP is switched off. This allows experienced drivers to tailor traction support to track conditions and their preferred driving style. Together, these features make exploring the performance and handling of the Mercedes-AMG® CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung an exciting opportunity to understand how power, chassis engineering, and aerodynamic design work together.
