What off-road driving modes are featured on the new AMG® G-Class?

Does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offer AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT?

Experience on- and off-road performance like never before in the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class–the performance legend that was nearly completely reinvented for 2019. For the first time ever, the high-performance AMG® G-Class is equipped with the AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT system, which greatly improves its performance both on pavement and on various terrains. An advanced driving technology system, AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT allows drivers to personalize the feel of the SUV’s engine and suspension to fit their individual needs and preferences.

On-Road Modes

AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT offers five on-road modes with characteristics ranging from efficient and comfortable to sporty and fast. Each on-road mode changes key driving parameters in suspension, steering, and engine and transmission response. The five on-road modes are listed below:

  • Slippery
  • Comfort
  • Sport
  • Sport+
  • Individual

Off-Road Modes

The system also offers three off-road modes to utilize when exploring off the beaten path–Sand, Trail, and Rock. Each driving mode is specifically designed for the type of terrain it was named after. See what each mode is capable of:

  • Sand – Provides the best possible grip and steerability on sand stretches or sand dunes
  • Trail – Provides maximum performance on soft, slippery, or muddy surfaces
  • Rock – Designed for extremely demanding, steep rocky terrain and utilizes severe axle articulation and frequent wheel lifting

Using AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT

Drivers can change the driving characteristics during on-road driving at the touch of a finger via a switch on the center console. Independent of the system’s drive programs, the driver also has the option of selecting another button on the center console marked “M” to switch directly to manual mode. In manual mode, gearshifts are performed exclusively without using the steering wheel’s paddle shifters.

The off-road driving modes are accessed via a switch on the center console. The switch activates the central differential lock which then enables off-road mode selection via the AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT rocker switch. Deselection of all the locks returns the system’s settings to the on-road driving modes.

While AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT is engaged, all the driving modes are visualized in the instrument cluster and the central media display.
