At the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, Mercedes-Benz presented one of their most impressive creations yet. From Mercedes-AMG and cooperating with Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 teams comes the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE hypercar. The Project One features MOT approval and is one of the most ambitious projects yet from Mercedes-AMG. The Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar features four electric motors and a Formula One-based engine. This hybrid technology offers impressively-high performance, including over 1,000 horsepower and a top-speed of over 217 mph. The plug-in hybrid powertrain is the result of Formula 1 technology and coordination with Mercedes-AMG High-Performance Powertrains in Brixworth. The combination of the 1.6-liter V6 hybrid gasoline engine with direct injection and the four electronic motors reduces lag time between turbo response and optimizes engine efficiency, making the engine’s response time faster than a V8. The electric turbocharger is also able to store excess energy from the exhaust system and either provides additional power or works to store more energy within the lithium-ion battery. The Project One also features a new all-wheel-drive system that provides increased performance due to an electrically-driven front axle.
