While the system alerts the following driver, it also prepares occupants for a potential accident by tightening seatbelts and repositioning the seatbacks to an upright position. In case your vehicle is already stopped, PRE-SAFE® will secure your brakes to make sure your vehicle is securely stationary, reducing the risk of forward thrust and a secondary accident with oncoming traffic or the vehicle ahead.

Another unique and innovative found in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is PRE-SAFE® Sound. PRE-SAFE® Sound is able to activate a protective mechanism of the human ear in hopes of protecting them from the loud sound of a crash. When the tone is played, the natural reflexes in the ear protect it from the damaging volume of the impending crash.
