Does The Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster Need More Power?
In 2016, Mercedes-Benz started with just two versions of the GT, the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Mercedes-AMG GT S. Since the initial release, the number of available GT variants has jumped all the way to 5, or 6 if you include the not-for-sale GT3 Formula One Race Car. Now, we are smart enough to know that Mercedes-Benz is never done, but especially after the introduction of the GT C Roadster, we are not expecting a 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster. From what we can tell, these are rumors, massaged by Mercedes-Benz executives to test the popularity of the idea. No, we don’t want to get our hopes up, but it is still fun to speculate what a Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster would entail.
GT Active Air Management Explained
Right now, the GT C is the more powerful of the two Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster trims. It is also a little wider and features the same suspension and adaptive aerodynamics that are found in the GT R Coupe. Basically, it already is a GT R without the top, minus a few horsepower and torque. This is the reason we don’t expect a GT R Roadster. If you really need 27 more horsepower, you should really go for the safety of having a roof over your head. It makes the vehicle more stable, and more aerodynamic, and it will protect you if you screw up.
If Mercedes-Benz was to go ahead with the GT R Roadster design, it would have to put out more power to compete with the GT C. For sure it would top 600 horsepower and would be capable of speeds over 200 miles per hour. Who knows, maybe we will be ready for such a machine in two years. What do you think? Would a GT R Roadster be manslaughter or a miracle?
