New Mercedes-AMG GT R Straight From The Jungle
Before the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GT R was a camouflaged ghost, seen only by stealthy photographers crawling around the Nurburgring. Now, after its unveiling, it exists in this green color, new to the Mercedes-AMG brand. Of course, it will be available to customers in other colors, like black, but the GT R green hell magno color is an homage of sorts to the race track that the new GT R was designed specifically to race on. The Nurburgring.
The Green Hell is a nickname given to a stretch of track known formally as the North Loop. Constructed in the 1920s, it is the oldest part of the track, as well as the longest, stretching across 12.9 miles and changing elevation some 1,000 feet. The North Loop got its nickname the Green Hell after World War II when the Nurburgring became a certified F1 track and skyrocketed in popularity. Even today, it takes race cars, capable of 200 miles per hour, roughly 8 minutes to travel 12.9 miles, paying testament to the difficulty of the track.
Not many car companies can say they are older than the Nurburgring itself, but Mercedes-Benz is one of those companies. In fact, we have the Nurburgring to thank for many life-changing Mercedes-Benz inventions. For the GT R, it’s active rear-wheel steering and AMG ESP Traction Control, but ever since the 1920s, Mercedes-Benz has been at present at the track, competing, and winning. It will be more valuable in the long run, no doubt, but might be too flashy for some. Leave a comment!
