Which Mercedes-Benz Vehicle Accelerates The Fastest?

2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Performance Specifications

The new Mercedes-AMG E63 S is set to return next summer with all the tricks from the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class combined with a new engine, 26 more horsepower, and two more gears since we last saw it in 2016. In fact, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S performance specifications reveal it as the fastest Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicle from 0-60 MPH in company history.

The Mercedes-AMG E63 S is nowhere near flagship status for the Mercedes-Benz brand, but you wouldn’t know that by driving it. It actually sits below the S-Class, SL-Class, G-Class, and even the GLS, but as one of the newest Mercedes-AMG vehicles to be unveiled, we can’t think of any other way to spend six figures.

4.0L V8 biturbo Engine

When the Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Sedan was last sold in 2016, it came with the same engine you will find in the current 2016 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. It was a 5.5L V8 biturbo with 577 horsepower. For 2018, Mercedes-Benz decided to give the E-Class a boost by borrowing the 4.0L V8 biturbo from the C63 S, which was borrowed from the Mercedes-AMG GT. This engine is one of the best in the business with a “hot-inside V” turbo configuration and, in this case, wet-sump lubrication.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S features a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine with 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.

AMG® SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-Speed Automatic Sport Transmission

In 2016, the Mercedes-Benz AMG® E63 S featured the infamous SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed transmission. Capable of making shifts in less than 100 milliseconds, this transmission WAS the best in the industry. For 2018, Mercedes-Benz was able to add two more gears without compromising shift speed, making the E-Class faster and more efficient at the same time.

0-60, Top Speed

As the quickest Mercedes-AMG vehicle from a dead stop, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S can accelerate from zero to 60 in just 3.3 seconds. This is two tenths of a second faster than the Mercedes-AMG GT R! Once past 60 miles per hour, the E-Class will keep accelerating all the way to an electronically-limited 186 miles per hour.
