2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class

If you thought the name-changing was over, think again. Mercedes-Benz is not done revamping its hierarchy of vehicle names. We aren’t complaining, because the new strategy does make more sense than the old slew of names, but it still takes some getting used to, especially when the newly named vehicles are so similar or even the exact same as the name it replaces. One of the best examples of this is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class.

History

If you are old enough to remember the 1970s, you may recall an SLC-Class prowling the streets for that decade, or you might not, depending on who your friends were. Regardless of where you were in the 70s, the SLC is back. Mercedes-Benz is renaming the SLK-Class to the SLC-Class to better fit the Mercedes-Benz family tree. The SL signifies that it is a sports car, while the C represents a close relation to the C-Class in terms of luxury. This actually makes more sense because who knows where that K came from anyway?

Body Style

Although we don’t have any pictures of the SLC prototype, there have been rumors that the body will undergo some changes to make it more modern, especially around the front grille and headlights. Since the SLK hasn’t been redesigned since 2002, we applaud this decision. For 2016, the SLK also got a new trim, the SLK300, which is likely in preparation of the SLC.

Release Date

We anticipate the SLC being a popular car because of a few reasons. First, people like new things. Second, it will remain affordable in comparison to other high-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles and will still offer a great deal of sport. If you are holding out for a 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class, you will likely have to wait until the third quarter of next year, or around August or September of 2016.
