Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV earns 2017 Top Safety Pick+ Rating from IIHS

2017-2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV Safety Rating and Features

The Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV has earned a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, the highest available from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The luxury 5-seater passed a series of crash tests with high ratings thanks to its intelligent body construction, standard front crash prevention system, and optional LED headlights. The GLC SUV launched in December 2015 as a larger, yet lighter replacement for the GLK SUV and has since become one of the brand’s best-selling flagship models. Let’s explore the 2017-2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV safety rating and features a bit more.

IIHS Rating

The GLC SUV received “good” ratings in a series of five crashworthiness tests, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints testing. In the event of a collision, the GLC SUV helps keep passengers secured with numerous airbags and three-point safety belts featuring belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for the driver, front passenger, and rear outer passengers.

Additionally, the GLC SUV’s standard COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS system received a “superior” rating for front crash prevention, successfully undergoing IIHS collision testing at both 12 mph and 25 mph. Another safety feature that received accolades from the IIHS are the optional static and dynamic LED headlights. The GLC SUV joins the 2017 E-Class Sedan and the 2017 GLE SUV as an IIHS Top Safety PICK+.

Configurations

The 2017 and 2018 GLC SUV is available at Mercedes-Benz dealerships nationwide as the GLC 300 in both rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC all-wheel drive configurations and as the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43. A new addition will also soon be joining the GLC SUV lineup–the ultra-high-performance AMG GLC 63, a stunner boasting handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 469 horsepower and AMG 4MATIC+® all-wheel drive.
