2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC Air Body Control suspension explained

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC Air Body Control suspension

Don’t you wish you could drive a comfortable SUV and a top-end sports car at the same time? Well now you can. Well, in November you can. With the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Air Body Control suspension, your car will automatically adjust things like ride height and stiffness to accommodate your driving style or the terrain you are driving on.

Like we needed another feature to make us love the GLC, right? Well now we have one; Air Body Control. Mercedes-Benz is not the first company to use technology like this, but this is the fastest and most intelligent application we have seen it used in.

New for 2017: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Evasive Steering Assist
The GLC Air Body Control uses air-powered hydraulics to adjust the way the car drives. You don’t have to get out and blow up a balloon, so don’t worry about that. All you need to do is pick your Dynamic Select driving mode. This is done by use of the COMAND navigation system located on the center console.

With Sport mode selected, the 2016 GLC will lower the chassis by 15 millimeters. It is not something you will feel when you select the program, but you will notice the difference when you start moving. Sport mode gives occupants the thrill of driving in a sports car with a stiff, lowered suspension, drastically increasing the lateral capabilities of the CUV. Comfort mode does the opposite of this to make the ride feel more cushiony and smooth.

GLC-Class models equipped with the Off-Road Engineering package will also be able to raise the driving level by up to 50 mm to maximize the wheels’ surface contact when climbing over things.

In an emergency, you may find yourself in an inappropriate mode, such as comfort. When this happens, the GLC can adjust itself automatically in 60 milliseconds.

The benefits that come with Air Body Control are endless. It makes driving more safe, more fun, more efficient, and more comfortable. Did someone say versatility? The GLC will be officially replacing the GLK in November of this year. Stop in at Mercedes-Benz of Arrowhead to take a look at one.
