The Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi 4 Series both come from Germany with dedication to luxury and performance. They are nearly identical in size all the way down to the centimeter in many areas. For 2017, these two vehicles once again offer two of the most affordable entries into the luxury sports car market. They each come from the performance divisions of their respective brands and they are both capable of 155 miles per hour. Is the decision between the two arbitrary? We don't think so.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is available in five trims for 2017. The Audi S4 is only available in two different trims and only jumps up to five if you include the Audi A4 lineup, which is technically a different car according to the Audi brand. Still, they are mid-level performance cars, preceded be variations that lack options. This means the S4 and the C43 come with most of the advanced driver-assistance and infotainment features as standard or at least an available option.
With similar body styles and sizes, a comparable number of trims, and engines that are built for performance, the Audi S4 and the Mercedes-AMG C43 probably share more similarities than differences, but there are still a few key aspects that need to be addressed. The first is overall performance. They may only be 30 horsepower apart, but with small sedans like these, 30 horsepower can make a world of difference. What is even more significant is the 50 lb-ft difference in torque between the two. This extra power is something that Mercedes-Benz has always been known for, but it is also a leader in fuel efficiency.
Audi is not far behind the C-Class with its TFSI® engine and 6-speed manual transmission, but it is no match for the C43 with and AMG®-enhanced biturbo engine and 9-speed automatic transmission.
