Mercedes-Benz Digital Light HD Headlamps: How Do They Work?

New Mercedes-Benz models feature “Digital Light” headlamp technology that improves both vision and brightness thanks to some impressively-innovative technology. The headlamps produce 3D HD images that offer drivers vision like no other vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz Digital Light headlamps use 83 LED chips and a series of over one million micromirrors to produce the display. The information received by the LED chips and micrometers is processed by an algorithm that is able to calculate (in real-time) how bright each pixel should shine.

Mercedes-Benz Digital Light HD headlamps were optimized for improved vision for the driver so they will not blind other drivers. They are not designed to be brighter than all other headlamps, rather smarter and more effective than other headlamps.

In addition to providing drivers with improved vision and brightness, the innovative HD headlamps also offer a few features that can improve safety, including projecting missing road markings for drivers, as well as broadcasting signals and warnings to pedestrians and other drivers.
