Only 75 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolets Will Be Sold In America
Before the car’s public debut, it was unclear whether the 2018 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet was going to be sold in the United States. We were first disappointed to see the “1 of 300” badge clearly displayed on the center console and then teased even further in the fine print with metric measurements of fuel economy. After holding our breathe, we now at least know with certainty that the S650 will have a United States release date, where the car will differ slightly from the European version.
In short, the S650 Cabriolet is a convertible S600 with an S65 engine. It is a handcrafted 6.0L V12 biturbo with 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. We were hoping for something a little more, as the European version makes 630 horsepower, but in all fairness, we can’t ignore the fact that the S65 needs 4.2 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour and the S650 Cabriolet only needs 4.1 seconds. Despite the fact that it is most likely heavier than the sedan, the S650 Cabriolet is faster and it gives you the comfort of the sun.
In total, the S650 family will consist of 300 models. Of these, only 75 will be sold to lucky United States Customers. Customers will be lined up before each model is produced, allowing them to choose between Zircon Red, Cote d’Azur Blue, and designo Diamond White.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2018 Mercedes-Maybach will be available in the Spring of 2017. Because the United States is usually the last in line for this kind of thing, we expect you won’t see one driving on the road until July or August of 2017, if ever. If you have any questions about the S650 like how to get on the list, come see us at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale.
