2016 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Intelligent Drive

Are you an intelligent driver? Do you use 12 sensors and four cameras to achieve 360 degree vision? Do you use fractions of a second to scan and analyze the road 80 meters ahead? Are you a chicken with a stable head? The 2016 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Intelligent Drive does all of these things and more. Does that make it smarter than us? Maybe. Mercedes-Benz was one of the first companies to experiment with autonomous driving. It has developed handfuls of technologies that work together to create Intelligent Drive, available now in the 2016 S-Class.

MAGIC BODY CONTROL

Why does a chicken coupe only have two doors? Because if it had four doors it would be a chicken sedan. Magic Body Control is an ancient KFC secret that has been adopted by Mercedes-Benz. It scans the road ahead with ROAD SURFACE SCAN and uses Active Body Control to analyze and adjust the suspension for anything that lies ahead. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with KFC, besides the chicken coincidence.

Night View Assist Plus

Have you ever been blinded by the light? The light of oncoming high-beams on the other side of a county road? Night View Assist Plus takes complete control of your headlights. This means turning them on and off as needed, as well as turning off high-beams when oncoming traffic is detected.

ATTENTION ASSIST

You know those rumble strips on the side of the highway? They are obsolete now thanks to attention assist. The S-Class will monitor your driving behavior. If it detects you are swerving too much or have driven for too long without a break, it will advise you to pull over and guide you to a hotel or rest area.

PRE-SAFE PLUS

If your S-Class gets scared, it will precondition both the brakes and the steering wheel in preparation of your next move. When these features activate, you as the driver just needs to apply the brake or turn the wheel. Regardless of how much you do either, the car will apply the correct amount of force to avoid the obstacle in your path.

BAS PLUS

This is a backup plan for the PRE-SAFE feature. If you fail to apply the brakes in time to avoid danger, the S-Class will take matters into its own hands and stop the car completely at speeds up to 20 miles per hour.

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist

This is the best one. DISTRONIC PLUS uses sensors to help you stay in your lane and keep a safe distance behind the car in front of you. Simply set your DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control and watch as the vehicle takes full control.
