2017 S-Class Convertible AMG Exterior Interior

Mercedes-AMG is Making an S-Class S65 AMG!

2017 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet Release Date

After 44 years of claustrophobia, the S-Class will be available in the spring as a convertible. The last convertible offered through the flagship S-Class was also the first convertible offered, which was in 1971. Mercedes-Benz didn’t say why it discontinued the cabriolet model for so long, but we speculate it had something to do with the rising popularity of the SL-Class Roadster. That is pretty much all out the window, or the roof, because the Mercedes-Benz just announced an AMG S 65 model to tower over the AMG S 63. Although the specific day is unofficial, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG 65 Cabriolet release date will take place sometime in March or April.

The cabriolet is awesome. Our only wish is that it was a hard-top convertible like the SL-Class. The hard top is genius because it provides the best of both worlds and no one is the wiser. The look of the soft top aside, we would still pick an S-Class over the SLK or the SL-Class any day because it offers the same, if not more performance, with more luxury, safety, and comfort.

2017 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet Brakes

New for 2017, the AMG S 65 comes with the option of high-performance ceramic composite brakes. These brakes are 40 percent lighter than the standard brakes, offering more control, safety, and again, comfort. Brakes are infinitely important in sports cars and we are glad Mercedes-Benz feels the same way because over-the-top brakes like these provide drivers with peace of mind that they will be able to stop the car with one foot in any condition.

2017 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Rigidity

One of the biggest concerns with a convertible sports car is the strength of the frame. The roof of a car is like a load-bearing wall. Without it, your level of safety diminishes drastically. This, fortunately, is not the case in the AMG S 65 because it is built with a mix of strong materials that make it just as stable as the coupe version. The coupe is harder to fall out of though.
